Amber Womack grew up on country and gospel music in her native Fort Worth, Texas. She toured with a gospel trio from the age of 12 until she started college at 18. She was then introduced to opera and musical theatre, and was thrilled to discover a whole new world of music that she had never heard before.
Amber promptly went on to get her B.A. in voice performance from Texas Wesleyan University and then moved to Philadelphia, where she got her M.M. in voice performance from Temple University. The siren song of NYC began calling and Amber answered with weekend trips on Amtrak for auditions and the new experience of watching Broadway shows and operas. Just a short time later, she was hooked and immediately moved to NYC after graduation.
Amber recently made her NYC cabaret debut at the famed nightclub Don’t Tell Mama, with a show she wrote herself called “Should I Be Sweet?” In her one woman show, Amber draws on all of her musical roots and tells the tale of her life’s journey to the Big Apple through the genres of musical theater, standards, pop, gospel, and country.
Amber Womack just returned from singing the role of Little Red in Little Red Riding Hood with the Natchez Festival of Music. She also recently appeared with the Troupers Light Opera as Gianetta in The Gondoliers. Other credits include Sylviane in The Merry Widow (Dallas Opera); Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi (Empire Opera Company); Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls (Graham Regional Theater), Prima Cercatrice in Suor Angelica (Opera Company of Brooklyn); Nella in Gianni Schicchi, Suor Dolcina in Suor Angelica, and Annina in La Traviata (Opera in the Ozarks); Inez in Il Trovatore (International Opera Workshop); Ms. Nordstrom in A Little Night Music (Shaker Mountain Opera Festival); Jou Jou in The Merry Widow (Bronx Opera Company); Marian in Music Man (Graham Regional Theater) and Hodel in Fiddler on the Roof (5th Street Players). She is a member of Actor’s Equity Association and the American Guild of Musical Artists. She currently studies classical voice with Mr. William Glazier, and musical theater with Ms. Kate Johnson.
